My Exile to Paris

In the summer of 2018.....I decided to go to Paris to escape the political climate of America. Children being held at the border, was enough for me, being a Social Worker and a doer, I felt I had to do something, but after talking to a few colleagues, there was not much in my power that I can do. I was already, feeling powerless over the state of Black Boys in America, it was all too much for me to bear, I felt angry and unheard.

It has always been a dream of mine to go to the City of Lights, after reading stories of one of my Icons, Josephine Baker and her amazing existence as an expat in France. A new airline from Iceland had just opened, called WOW with affordable flights to Paris presenting the perfect opportunity for me to exit the country. I took a leap of faith and I booked a one way flight and a beautiful loft in Neuilly Plaissance, which quickly became my favorite town.

I landed at 9 Pm during the Full Moon. Paris under the full moon was illuminating. Living in Paris is like living in a storybook from my childhood....it is a magical and enchanting experience. I made many new friends and had amazing adventures, that I will cherish forever. Go to my instagram account @kimafreeka to check out more pictures and stories of my Paris escapades.
